We have compiled the troubleshooting tips for this error. This type of issue comes in many types of streaming devices like boxes, sticks, and smart TVs. It disrupts the viewing experience and can be a nuisance for users. I know how it is important to get rid of the issue and restore the issue for smooth and errorless functionality.

The issue may arise due to an error with the remote control or some other conditions. Let me show you all of the possible ways to fix it. Be with me till the end. The issue may be fixed when you apply one of the tips provided here in this article.

How to fix the Roku TV keeps going back to the home screen issue?

Check the Home button on the remote

The Roku remote has a Home button at the top that when pressed will take you back to the home screen. If the Roku keeps returning to the home screen on its own, the home button on the remote may be stuck in the pressed-down position or have a loose connection.

Inspect the button now. When you put any of the content on your TV, because of the button in pressed mode, it again will land on the Home page.

To check in detail, once you put any channel on your Roku, immediately remove the batteries from the remote control. If the problem is fixed, you can confirm that the issue is with the Home button on the remote.

To fix the faulty button remote, just press the Home button many times to get released from the stuck position. Or, just disassemble the remote to inspect the contacts. After that, reassemble it and check whether the issue is fixed.

Test if the Roku remote app is stuck somewhere

If you are controlling the TV with your remote control app, you should check whether the app is stuck at any point that keeps your TV going back to the Home page.

To check there is no issue at all, remove the batteries from your original remote, and use the remote app as a virtual remote for some time.

Update the remote app to the latest version and re-assign the app to your streaming device.

Paired multiple remotes to the same Roku, check it

Do you have two remotes for your streaming TV? If yes, it may cause issues if there’s a problem with either remote control.

While it’s possible to pair two WiFi remotes with one Roku device, you cannot pair a single WiFi remote to the same device simultaneously.

If you confirm that you have previously paired the other remote instead of the currently used one, unpair both of them and then pair only one remote at a time.

Keep separate power sources for both TV and streaming device

If you are using your smart TV as the power source for your connected Roku device, it’s better to keep separate power sources for both your TV and Roku stick or box.

in other words, you should only connect the Roku to your TV Via HDMI cable, and the power cord should be connected separately to the wall power outlet.

Turn on the TV then, and check it still going back to the Home screen again.

I hope it will be fixed since this is fixed for one of my client’s streaming sticks.

Check for power stability

Check that the power supply to your Roku is stable and not causing the device to reset. Make sure the Roku is plugged directly into a wall outlet rather than a power strip or extension cord, which can experience fluctuations.

Also, verify that the wall socket is not overloaded with too many devices drawing power. You could also check connecting the device to another power socket. Consistent power flow is key for smooth performance.

Uninstall and re-install the affected channel

if you are getting the issue when you put in any particular channel, it’s better to update the app or just re-install it. First of all, uninstall the app. To remove the channel, play the app, and press the asterisk button to get the menu items with pop-up. Select the Remove channel option.

Then restart your Roku TV. When your TV gets the Home screen, go to the channel store, search for the app, and install it again.

The channel store will install the latest version from their store and the bug will be solved.

Firmware bug, update it

A firmware bug in the Roku software could be a reason for it to repeatedly exit the home screen during navigation. They periodically provide software updates and patches to fix bugs and improve performance.

Determine your current Roku software version in the settings and check online for any known firmware issues with that version. Consider connecting your Roku to the internet and checking for any available updates to install. Firmware updates from Roku will often state the fixes and improvements included.

Conclusion

I listed all the possible ways that may cause your Roku TV to return to the initial home page while watching the content. If you are getting the issue even after updating the firmware and trying all the other 6 solid tips, you can contact the Roku support center for more help.

I hope you do need not to contact them since I am sure the error will be fixed by applying any one of the tips that I provided. Try it and thank me later 🙂
