Many users have reported that their Roku blinks a white light and then turns off automatically when they try to turn on the device. This issue is especially prevalent on Roku Express and Ultra models. However, only a few people have complained about this with their streaming stick.

Additionally, it’s a good idea to check other factors to ensure the smooth functioning of your device. Let’s discuss those as well. I don’t believe you received a faulty unit, as all units undergo quality checks before being launched

A blinking white light on Roku means there are some faults on your streaming device. The issue is most commonly found when the device is connected over an HDMI cable. That’s why only a few customers are getting this type of error with their streaming stick. We can simply solve this by checking the connection.

In short, the issue arises with connection-related.

How to fix the white light blinking on a Roku device?

The possible DIY solutions are here

  • Check wired HDMI connections
  • Press the Home button on the remote when starting up
  • Ensure there is no issue with your internet connection
  • Power recycle your device
  • restart or reset both your Roku and router

Check the HDMI cable connection

If you are using Roku Express or Ultra, connect the device with an HDMI cable because it can’t be plugged directly into the TV’s HDMI port like our streaming stick. Check for any loose connections between the TV and the device you made via the HDMI cable.

To ensure the best connection, first of all, unplug the HDMI cable from your TV and Roku’s port. Then disconnect your TV from the power outlet. wait at least 2 minutes. Then connect your TV and device with the HDMI cable. Make sure the port is tightly connected to the cord.

Power On the TV and check whether the white light flashing issue is resolved or not.

If still the issue persists, I would recommend you replace the HDMI cord. When there is a spare cord at your home, just try with that.

Press the Home button on the remote when starting up

Provide power to your TV and Roku device. You will get the Roku logo to appear on the TV screen. Then press the Home button on your streaming device remote control (NOT on your TV remote) before the logo disappears. This may prevent your Roku stick/box goes turning OFF after blinking the white light.

Ensure there is no issue with your internet connection

If a poor WiFi signal is provided, your Roku may exhibit symptoms like this.

Have you recently changed your WiFi connection? If so, please note that Roku can’t connect to a WiFi network that is not registered to the device. In this case, you should register the device to the new network.

If your Roku still can’t connect, you can try changing the Roku’s IP address without using a remote control. This can be done through bypass methods like using the Remoku mobile app, Chrome extensions, router settings, and so on.

If you believe your WiFi signal is strong and there are no issues, you can further troubleshoot by connecting the device to the internet via an ethernet cable. If the problem is resolved with the ethernet connection, consider contacting your internet service provider to address any speed-related concerns.

Additionally, ensure that your WiFi router is placed near the device for optimal signal strength.

Power recycle your device and router

It’s nothing but unplugging all the connections from your power outlet. Then wait for a few minutes. It’s just 1 or 2 minutes, not more than that. Then re-plug the power cord back into your device. This will release residual cache from your Roku and give you a fresh start.

Reset Roku

When you have tried the above-given methods, and still your Roku shows the white light blinking error, then as a last method, just reset your device. On ULTRA and EXPRESS models, there is a physical reset button on the side portion or under portion of the device.

Press and hold down the reset button for 10 seconds to reset the device.

Conclusion

Solving the connection issue can surely help you to get rid of the white light color blinking on your Roku box. So, are you using HDMI cable for connection, make sure to buy a quality product from a well-known brand? Try the added troubleshooting tips when the problem keeps coming up.
