One of the most common issues regarding Roku is that it constantly restarts by itself either during its setup process or while watching the content on the TV. Depending on the occasion the device restarts, the reasons are different.
Today, we will see the different factors that lead to restarting your Roku TV, and by fixing them you can continue watching your entertainment content without any issue.
There are some rare cases in which your Roku device will reboot itself to fix the issue itself, but when it can’t solve the error itself even by rebooting it, it’ll continue to restart many times. That’s why you are facing the issue on some occasions.
We can simply diagnose the issue and do what is needed. I already mentioned some factors that may lead to frequent reboot errors, let’s look at all of them.
How to fix the Roku TV restarting issue?
Check the following things
Check whether the device is overheated
If you are getting the device restarting problem during prolonged usage of the device, the device may get overheated and it goes restart. Just check the surface temperature of the Roku stick or box by keeping your hand on it. When you feel that the temperature is higher, you can confirm that the issue is due to the over temperature.
What you can do here is, turn off the device for a few minutes till it lowers the heat. Separate the streaming device from the TV and keep it separately where it cools down fast. Either under the air conditioner or a fan.
Once it cools down, connect it to the TV and turn on it. The issue will be fixed.
Pro TIP:-
Always place your TV in the open air so that the connected device will get maximum air circulation and prevent it from getting overheated.
Fix the Software glitch
When your Roku TV restarts itself during setup, it’s because there is an issue with the firmware software. We can simply overcome the issue once we have done the Roku TV firmware update, but it’s hard for you to update the software because it keeps restarting, and won’t allow us to follow through the settings on the menu options.
So, what we can do is, if your TV gives at least 10 seconds until its next restarting cycle, we can quickly clear the cache with a trick with the help of the remote control.
Once the TV restarts, immediately follow the steps, Press the HOME button 5 times>>Press the UPWARD arrow button>>Press the REWIND button Twice>>Press the Forward button twice
till it turns OFF. It’ll delete all the Roku devices and apps cache and fix small software glitches.
Check whether the power output is constant
If your Roku does not receive steady power, it restarts according to how it gets the electrical power. Your device needs consistent power to operate properly. If there are fluctuations, interruptions, or drops in power delivery from the wall outlet or USB port, this can force the Roku to abruptly restart as it tries to reset itself.
Try to use the original cable to pass the power to the device. Check the power outlet and if there are any issues related to its hardware, change it.
You can check this by connecting both your TV and the device to another power outlet at your home.
Reset the TV or device
Most of the Roku smart TVs have a reset button to quickly escape from minor issues like this. Once your TV turns ON before it goes back to turn off automatically, press the reset button on the device to allow you to reset it.
Some users reported that the error happens once they update their Roku device. If you do reset, the device will become the software version when you buy the device.
Disconnect third-party devices from the TV
You may be connected your TV to some third-party devices like soundbars, DVD players, set-top boxes, home theatre systems, etc which can be a reason that your Roku TV undergoes restarting multiple times. Disconnect the devices from the TV and only connect your Roku streaming stick or box to the TV.
Then turn on the TV and check whether the problem is fixed or not.
Use separate power for TV and Roku device
We always get the insufficient power issue on Roku TV and the TV will display the error. In some cases, it may not show the message, but the TV reboot many times. Also, check the device blinking in RED color, and if you see so, you can confirm that it running in a low power source.
Rather than getting the power for the device from the TV by connecting a USB power cable, connect the TV and the streaming device separately on a power outlet and provide sufficient power for both of them.
If it is caused due to insufficient power, it’ll be fixed for sure.
Whenever you are not watching the TV, just turn off the power switch on the power outlet rather than pressing the OFF button on the remote.
It’s time to warp up the post, and I think I provided all of the possible causes and the solution to fix the restarting error on your Roku TV.
